Andrew Cuomo On Education
By-Yasmin Rosado and Adetola Ajibose
"I believe public education is the new civil rights battle and I support charter schools."
Andrew Cuomo
Andrew Cuomo has formed four educational reforms principles in order to complement the $700 million of education funding New York State will receive. Cuomo's four reforms are:
4) Turning around struggling schools.
We like Andrew Cuomo plans for education because it is actually trying to find a way to better the educational system. Andrew Paladino's plan to increase the amount of time spent in school is not going to improve the students performances in school. I feel that Cuomo's plan is actually taking a step toward making a reform. Extending the school year is not going to make students want to learn more. We personally feel as though the school year is already to long therefore extending the school year will not make a big difference in the graduation rate. If a student is going to fail we don't feel that extra days will make a difference. Cuomo's plan on the other hand is providing a means to tighten up and improve the system.
We believe that Andrew Cuomo has a better plan for education. Carl Paladino plans on extending the school year for all students and teachers. Although we believe that New York students will benefit from this extension, this will cause the city to lose a lot more money than what it has now. Another problem is that students will not be able to experience life outside of school if their vacation time is cut short. How will they be able to grow and learn through real life situations when their time of vacation will be cut down extremely? On the other hand, Cuomo will carefully observe teachers from all schools and take out those who will not help students do well or push them to excel in their grades. If students had a better teacher from the beginning, they would have a better chance at understanding everything they are doing in their classes for a long period of time.

1) A commitment to rigorous standards and assessments;

3) Building instructional data systems that measure student success and inform teachers and principals how they can improve their teaching practices; and

Pro-Choice or Pro-Life
By-Adetola Ajibose
When it comes to the issue of abortion Carl Paladino is pro-choice and Andrew Cuomo is pro- choice. Carl Paladino is against all aspects of abortion. He feels that even if a person is a victim of rape or incest they should still have the kid but give it up for adoption. I choose this topic because I feel that it is a very important issue. I feel as though this topic is also much bigger than just whether or not abortion should be illegal or legal. I feel as though I crosses into the issue as to how much say does the government have in our lives. I am in strong support of a women choosing whether or not they should give birth or have an abortion. That is why I support Cuomo on this issue. I don't feel it really is the job of the government to force someone to have children. It is up to women to decide if she wants to have it or not. The government should not have to force a women to give birth because it is a personal decision and should remain that way.

Gay Rights: Cuomo vs Paladino
By Yasmin Rosado
Gay rights is the most controversial issue in the United States of America. Carl Paladino has made his opinion clear to the people of New York State about gay rights. He is fully supportive of gay rights. He is against the discrimination and bullying of gays. However he is opposed to the most important part of gay rights: gay marriage. Andrew Cuomo believes that marriage equality for gays is the "civil-rights movement of our time".
Carl Paladino is looked at as a bully by the gay community. He stated that he was offended by the Gay Rights Parade by saying, "Yeah, because they wear these little Speedos, and they grind ... against each other, and I don't think little children should be exposed to that." Paladino attacked Cuomo's judgement on taking his daughters to the Gay Rights Parade. He thinks that children are being brainwashed into thinking that gay marriage is or homosexuality in general is "an equally valid and successful option."
Andrew Cuomo is pushing hard in the fight to legalize same sex marriage. He has many supporters, especially the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community and various gay rights groups. He plans to create and pass the Gender Non Discrimination Act. He stated that Paladino is plotting people against one another by declaring his opinion and asking the people to differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
I completely agree with Andrew Cuomo. In general, all people should have equal rights no matter what race you are or what sexual preference you have. There is a lot of division in this country. I don't feel like we are "United" like we are suppose to be. There will always be people who oppose different issues. But others should not be punished for loving someone of the same sex. I chose this topic because I feel that people who are homosexual deserve the same rights as everyone else. They have been fighting for the right to have same sex marriages for a while and there is no valid argument to prevent them from doing so.

cuomos plan for economy/jobs By tamara Jacobs
The blog topic that i choose was economy and jobs. There reason why i choose this issue is because this is a big issue that should be discussed and fixed. economy and jobs are really low for new yorkers . A lot of the times nothing is done to help solve these problems. It has become very had for people to find job since the the country has be in ression. A lot people have been out of work and it has been a big issue for them to get back up on there feet. I agree with cuomos plan more because seems more effecrtive to help fix society. Cuomo came up with an urban agenda that will insure that minorite and women and owned businesses have a fear chance to compete. It also adresses the problems that need to be brought up.

Paladino's Plan For Education
By Tamara Jacobs & Joseph Magenta
In Paladino's plan for education, he plans to extend the school year and hours per day of teachers and remove the Education Law 3020A which inhibits the ability to discipline tenured teachers, so they can be disciplined just as everyone else. He also wants to increase the science and math curriculum to prepair students for government economics. Paladino strongly enforces charter schools for he thinks that they provide a better education then regular schools. The only problem with the charter schools is that there are only 200, and 50 of them are in New York City. Paladino promises that he will change the number of charter schools because he believes that they will help kids bet a better education. He states that he will work very hard to get 500 more charter schools in the New York City aria. With regard to the "No Child Left Behind Act", he will create charter schools in the worst urban areas where there aren't enough schools or the kids don't receive the best education.

Job Creation
By Yasmin Rosado
Andrew Cuomo directly tackles the idea of job creation by formulating a plan of emergency tax credit which will be given to the unemployed people. This program will help businesses to distribute the pay roll equally by lowering the hours and pay of other workers and creating the jobs with the extra hours and money left over. I feel that this is a very smart idea and will help businesses as well as decrease the percentage of unemployed people. Although it may upset some workers because they will not be receiving the same hours and pay, it will benefit the country ultimately.

Job Creation: Paladino vs. Cuomo
By- Adetola Ajibose
A.Which candidate has a better idea of how to reduce unemployment? Why?
B. Attach an article that analyzes the candidates ideas and frequent disagreements on this subject
On the issue concerning job creation Andrew Cuomo plans to get the legislature to enforce a three hundred million dollar "Jobs Now" tax credit program. By doing this he is encouraging more employer to hire more people and result they will receive money back if they keep a person for a year if they have been unemployed for sixty days full time. He also plans to encourage the use of New York Department of Labor’s “Work Sharing” program. This program allows participating companies to lessen the hours an pay of workers but they will remain employed with benefits. The State Unemployed Insurance Fund then the workers to receive money they would have paid to unemployment insurance benefits to take the place of the earnings they lost. I believe his idea to reduce unemployment are better than Paladino's because the way in which he plans to go about it will encourage more people to follow through with his idea f they know they will get money back. His idea have both a way to keep your job and get a new one.Mean while Paladino's idea to cut unemployment includes cuting taxes and state spending.

cuomo plan more successful by Tamara Jacobs
Cuomo has a better idea that would reduce unemployment. Cuomos idea states that he would replace the empire zones program with an aggressive program that would make businesses move into new york or expand existing jobs that there would be more jobs open for people. It would be a bit easier for people to get jobs. Cuomo Quoted "under our strategic job incentives program selected business in key industries will be granted tax credits for creating new jobs" Cuomo's coming up with a way to make more money to provide more jobs for the unemployed. Each business would half to sign a agreement saying that there commited to finding a specfic number of jobs. Paladino's plan dose focus on the basics of finding the unemployed jobs. cuomo's plan helps to get the unemployed jobs and get them back on there feet. It also is helping to benefit society
Andrew Cuomo's Vs Carl Paladino's official websites
By Joseph Magenta
After reviewing the candidates' websites, i have come to the conclusion that Paladino's is the more informative one. While Cuomo's is a nicer set up, Paladino has substance and that is what matter when people want to know what the candidate is going to do when he is office. A well informed site could make or break the election, that and a good debate outcome. the more information you can give out about what your going to do when your in office make the voters lean towards you side and vote for you.

Cuomo or Paladino: Whose ideas for economic improvement are better?
By Yasmin Rosado
State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, strictly emphasizes his focus on the state's regional needs. Cuomo states in his campaign stop that since New York State is a highly taxes state in the United States, there is no long term economic future for it. Cuomo proposes that he "would end the long-criticized system in which a state agency run by government appointees awards tax breaks to attract or retain employers".
Carl Paladino wants to create new jobs and cut taxes for corporate franchises and capital gains taxes. As a result of the taxes being diminished, Paladino proposes to cut personal income taxes by 10 percent.
Andrew Cuomo has the best economic improvement idea so far. He is taking things one step at a time. Although the cut off of taxes for new businesses and other franchises is an excellent idea on Paladino's part, it will still hurt the state government because Albany will be responsible to pay all of the money that has not come from these establishments. The main questions are: how will he be able to completely cut taxes for corporations without any consequences? And most importantly, how long will it take for his idea of quickly fixing the economy of New York?

Ideas for Economic Improvement: Cuomo vs. Paladino
By-Adetola Ajibose
In the issues concerning economic improvement Paladino and Cuomo each have their own ideas about how they would go about making a change in this depressed economy. Andrew Cuomo main focus is on regional needs and resources.Paladino plans to cut taxes or eliminate taxes on manufacturers as a way to lure more people to come and join the state. According to Michael Gormley of the mpnnow.com website Paldino plans to cut personal income taxes by ten percent. He figures more people will move to New York to evade the taxes. Cuomo wants to end a highly criticized system which a state agency run by government appointees award tax breaks to attract or retain employers.

cuomo vs paladinos economics
by Tamara jacobs
"We want to create good jobs, we want to have the reputation of a state that does not have a corporate franchise tax on manufacturers,” Paladino told The Associated Press. Paladino wants to bring down the tax rates to help the manufacturers . Paladino feels that this would help the economy with better jobs. As he said in his quote he dosen't want the state to have a bad reputation for the high tax rates that are affecting the manufacturers. Cuomo fills that this plan will not help the economy in any way and is not a successful plan. Cuomo also feels he is not responsible to voters.“There is no long-term economic future for a state that is one of the highest taxed states in the nation, period.” There is no one New York state economic development.” Cuomo clearly stated that he belives that Paladinos plan would not work because he only has on plan to fix one state. Cuomo argues that you should have many different ideas and plans to fix different states beacue it would help the econom even better.

Cuomo Vs Paladino Ideas
By Joseph Magenta
Paladino believes that Cuomo's idea of tax capping is not enough for the citizens of New York. He feels that we need to cut taxes by lowering medicare to one similar to California's. Paladino states "I believe Andrew Cuomo is gutless on Medicaid, too - the biggest problem with county taxes today. New York spends more on Medicaid than any other state in the union. We're twice as costly as California, which comes in second. If we simply cut Medicaid down to California levels - still far above the national average - taxpayers can realize 40%-plus cut in taxes." on his idea of tax cuts.
Cuomo on the other hand will put a cap on property taxes for all school districts and local governments (counties, towns, villages, and special districts), set at the inflation rate or two percent, whichever is lower. In no way does he state a tax cut for the people.
In the view of people who can afford health care on their own, the Paladino approach seems to their liking, but for the people who relies on medicaid will be furious if that happens. With that stated you cant really say who has a better plan, it all depends on your opinion.

Cuomo's Web or Paladino's Web
By- Adetola Ajibose
After careful observation of both Andrew Cuomo's and Carl Paldino's websites I feel as though both websites are equally informative. Both candidates have their backgroound information, points of views on major issues and how they plan to go about solving it. They each also have information on how they are getting involved in the community or organizations in which they have help start or sponsor. According to each persons mission statement i feel as though Cuomo's missionis more attainable. Paladino says that, "I'll cut taxes by 10%, cut state spending by 20%, and stamp out corruption with new full disclosure laws for state legislators". I don't feel as though he can actually do this I think he is just saying this in order to win the election. He doesn't say how he will go about doing this he just say he will. He is making promises he doesn't know if he'll be able to keep. Based on their websites i feel as though Cuomo is more qualified to be Governor because he has an outstanding rate of success. Cuomo juggles being an attorney general while being the founder of the HELP organization. He also is the secretary of housing and development. Cuomo is intensely involved with the affairs of the people which I feel is the most important qualification of being governor.

informative website By tamara Jacobs
Paladino has a more informative website. His discusses in details the damage that has been done to the econonmy and country and his plans to fix it. He discusses how the taxes have went up hugely. Cuomo website is very well formatted and its appearance is very vivid but he has a brief discussion about what he plans to do to fix the economy. He also dose not give as much background information. Cuomo is more qualified to be the governor because he stood up to corruption and government and improved insurance reinbursement

Rock the Vote
By Yasmin Rosado
Rock the Vote is an effective website that provides a stepping stone for young adults to become active voters. Many young adults think that their votes do not matter. Or that they cannot make a difference in the world by voting. This thought dissuades them from going to the polls for elections. However, Rock the Vote informs the American citizens how a difference can be made in various blogs and throughout the rest of the categories on the website.
Some people do not know where to start with the voting process. They may ask themselves, "How can I register to vote?" On the website, there is a REGISTER TO VOTE button that helps those who need to register get started on the process. In order to promote their agenda, they sell shirts with their logo and also display the various events that are taking place to advertise the common goal of the website: gaining the attention of young adults and encouraging them to vote.
Young adults were given the right to vote at the age of 18. I would recommend this website to those who would like to get involved in the voting community. Our voices need to be heard. Rock the Vote is a great website to use when you have no sense of direction when it comes to voting.

mtv.com/choose or loose by Tamara Jacobs
The website mtv.com seems to be very affective because it informers the voter of all the information about voting. It also reaches out to the audience and give the voter a clear view of the voting. The attrubutes it has is the choose or loose partners because that helps the voters to make a correct decision. I would reccomend this website to someone interested into politics. This website would educate the person who interested into poltics and break certain things down into details. The website helps the voter to make the right choice and decision. The website as well clearify's thing that the voter may not have understand about voting.
Declare Yourself
By-Adetola Ajibose
I feel as though the Declare Yourself website is an effective website because it offers a basis for you to inform yourself on facts and information for you to be able to vote. They provide a detailed explanation to many popular question asked and also provides multiple links for you to access further information on whatever you feel is not clear. This is all provided int he "Voting FAQ" section of the website. This website encourages all people who are qualified to vote to become active in voting in the upcoming elections. The video shown in the Multimedia section of the website help promote the importance of people becoming active in elections.
On the other hand the hsan.org website is not as effective as the declare yourself website. The Hip Hop Summit organization does not provide information for public to help encourage the viewer to do anything. They only provide their mission statement but do not explain the steps that they use to go about reaching their goal. They are not effective in gaining the attention of the youth through hip hop in their web page. The website is only of use to gain sponsors for their non-profit organization.
