Andrew Cuomo On Education
By-Yasmin Rosado and Adetola Ajibose
"I believe public education is the new civil rights battle and I support charter schools."
Andrew Cuomo
Andrew Cuomo has formed four educational reforms principles in order to complement the $700 million of education funding New York State will receive. Cuomo's four reforms are:
4) Turning around struggling schools.
We like Andrew Cuomo plans for education because it is actually trying to find a way to better the educational system. Andrew Paladino's plan to increase the amount of time spent in school is not going to improve the students performances in school. I feel that Cuomo's plan is actually taking a step toward making a reform. Extending the school year is not going to make students want to learn more. We personally feel as though the school year is already to long therefore extending the school year will not make a big difference in the graduation rate. If a student is going to fail we don't feel that extra days will make a difference. Cuomo's plan on the other hand is providing a means to tighten up and improve the system.
We believe that Andrew Cuomo has a better plan for education. Carl Paladino plans on extending the school year for all students and teachers. Although we believe that New York students will benefit from this extension, this will cause the city to lose a lot more money than what it has now. Another problem is that students will not be able to experience life outside of school if their vacation time is cut short. How will they be able to grow and learn through real life situations when their time of vacation will be cut down extremely? On the other hand, Cuomo will carefully observe teachers from all schools and take out those who will not help students do well or push them to excel in their grades. If students had a better teacher from the beginning, they would have a better chance at understanding everything they are doing in their classes for a long period of time.

1) A commitment to rigorous standards and assessments;
2) Recruiting, preparing and supporting great teachers and school principals;
3) Building instructional data systems that measure student success and inform teachers and principals how they can improve their teaching practices; and
4) Turning around struggling schools.

Pro-Choice or Pro-Life
By-Adetola Ajibose
When it comes to the issue of abortion Carl Paladino is pro-choice and Andrew Cuomo is pro- choice. Carl Paladino is against all aspects of abortion. He feels that even if a person is a victim of rape or incest they should still have the kid but give it up for adoption. I choose this topic because I feel that it is a very important issue. I feel as though this topic is also much bigger than just whether or not abortion should be illegal or legal. I feel as though I crosses into the issue as to how much say does the government have in our lives. I am in strong support of a women choosing whether or not they should give birth or have an abortion. That is why I support Cuomo on this issue. I don't feel it really is the job of the government to force someone to have children. It is up to women to decide if she wants to have it or not. The government should not have to force a women to give birth because it is a personal decision and should remain that way.

Gay Rights: Cuomo vs Paladino
By Yasmin Rosado
Gay rights is the most controversial issue in the United States of America. Carl Paladino has made his opinion clear to the people of New York State about gay rights. He is fully supportive of gay rights. He is against the discrimination and bullying of gays. However he is opposed to the most important part of gay rights: gay marriage. Andrew Cuomo believes that marriage equality for gays is the "civil-rights movement of our time".
Carl Paladino is looked at as a bully by the gay community. He stated that he was offended by the Gay Rights Parade by saying, "Yeah, because they wear these little Speedos, and they grind ... against each other, and I don't think little children should be exposed to that." Paladino attacked Cuomo's judgement on taking his daughters to the Gay Rights Parade. He thinks that children are being brainwashed into thinking that gay marriage is or homosexuality in general is "an equally valid and successful option."
Andrew Cuomo is pushing hard in the fight to legalize same sex marriage. He has many supporters, especially the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community and various gay rights groups. He plans to create and pass the Gender Non Discrimination Act. He stated that Paladino is plotting people against one another by declaring his opinion and asking the people to differentiate what is right and what is wrong.
I completely agree with Andrew Cuomo. In general, all people should have equal rights no matter what race you are or what sexual preference you have. There is a lot of division in this country. I don't feel like we are "United" like we are suppose to be. There will always be people who oppose different issues. But others should not be punished for loving someone of the same sex. I chose this topic because I feel that people who are homosexual deserve the same rights as everyone else. They have been fighting for the right to have same sex marriages for a while and there is no valid argument to prevent them from doing so.

cuomos plan for economy/jobs By tamara Jacobs
The blog topic that i choose was economy and jobs. There reason why i choose this issue is because this is a big issue that should be discussed and fixed. economy and jobs are really low for new yorkers . A lot of the times nothing is done to help solve these problems. It has become very had for people to find job since the the country has be in ression. A lot people have been out of work and it has been a big issue for them to get back up on there feet. I agree with cuomos plan more because seems more effecrtive to help fix society. Cuomo came up with an urban agenda that will insure that minorite and women and owned businesses have a fear chance to compete. It also adresses the problems that need to be brought up.

Paladino's Plan For Education
By Tamara Jacobs & Joseph Magenta
In Paladino's plan for education, he plans to extend the school year and hours per day of teachers and remove the Education Law 3020A which inhibits the ability to discipline tenured teachers, so they can be disciplined just as everyone else. He also wants to increase the science and math curriculum to prepair students for government economics. Paladino strongly enforces charter schools for he thinks that they provide a better education then regular schools. The only problem with the charter schools is that there are only 200, and 50 of them are in New York City. Paladino promises that he will change the number of charter schools because he believes that they will help kids bet a better education. He states that he will work very hard to get 500 more charter schools in the New York City aria. With regard to the "No Child Left Behind Act", he will create charter schools in the worst urban areas where there aren't enough schools or the kids don't receive the best education.

Job Creation
By Yasmin Rosado
Andrew Cuomo directly tackles the idea of job creation by formulating a plan of emergency tax credit which will be given to the unemployed people. This program will help businesses to distribute the pay roll equally by lowering the hours and pay of other workers and creating the jobs with the extra hours and money left over. I feel that this is a very smart idea and will help businesses as well as decrease the percentage of unemployed people. Although it may upset some workers because they will not be receiving the same hours and pay, it will benefit the country ultimately.
